Payet is better than Downing. Obiang is probably better than Song was for the second half of last season.

So no, not really. We just have a fuckload of injuries and good players who are still mentally on holiday.

Plus a new Manager with new ideas and thoughts on how we should play which is taking some players longer to adjust to than others.

Re: Are we weaker than last season now we have lost Downing and Song?
I certainly don't think we are stronger, Payet apart I don't see any added value to the club. Even with the OS around the corner we still get lie after lie from Sullivan in particular, thought all premiership clubs had more to spend this time around so where has ours gone?

Re: Are we weaker than last season now we have lost Downing and Song?
I think we are currently looking in a worse state.

We've made a net loss on first team players;

Downing, Song, Cole, Demel, Nene, Nolan, Jussi out

With Payet, Obiang, Ogbonna, Randolph, Lanzini (and maybe Hendrie) in as first team squad players.

We are injury hit and have Jenkinson and Adrian on suspensions. We've also loaned out Poyet to further reduce numbers.

We have no width with Valencia injured and Downing sold and Morgan has been bombed out, rightly or wrongly.

Cresswell's form has dropped and we've no real competition for that spot.

Our transfer policy has turned to shit.

I am concerned

Re: Are we weaker than last season now we have lost Downing and Song?
having no natural/flair in form players out wide has allowed 2 teams to batter us this season..

jarvis will also be highly motivated after being offered in a shit deal against a lower league player.

great work by the club this window. watch the cunts buy 4 more central defenders/holding midfielders

Re: Are we weaker than last season now we have lost Downing and Song?
what amazes me (although is shouldnt by now) is the lack of planning or forward thinking by our board.
- decided what your principles are
- decide how you want the team to play
- get a manager who can execute this
- give him suitable players

we just seem to have a short sighted/quick fix approach to everything.
wish the owners would fuck off asap.

Re: Are we weaker than last season now we have lost Downing and Song?
We're considerably weaker without (a fit) Song, who hasn't been replaced

I don't think Downing will make a considerable difference now that we've signed Payet

We're also still very short in key positions, obviously, up front, but also RB (Demel has not been replaced)

We're rapidly running out of options of players to fill those 3 key positions as the window draws nearer which is extremely worrying

The board need to start getting the chequebook out sharpish. It's not looking good

Re: Are we weaker than last season now we have lost Downing and Song?
Goose- they did decide what their principles (objectives) were.

Ensure we stay in the premiership and play attractive, exciting football to guarantee we fill the OS next year.

It looks like we have given no thought on how we would achieve that, sadly this transfer window is little different to what we have done in the past. Great promises followed by a policy of raising expectations and then ensuring hopes are dashed. I no longer believe a single word uttered by G&S.
